A number of school visits have taken place this half term related to the children's learning.

Key Stage 1 children went to Eureka in Halifax to learn more about their bodies and themselves. They had great fun and enjoyed the many interactive displays and "sets" that can be found at Eureka. Have a look in the Gallery to see some pictures from the day.

Children from Year 6 visited Quarry Bank Mill in Styal. They have been reading Street Child and Far From Home by Berlie Doherty. Both books deal with the lives of children working in the mill in Victorian times. Our children (and staff) dressed up for the day. They visited the Apprentices' House where the children lived and the huge mill where they worked a 12 hour day for six days a week.

The Victorian Mill once saw stones taking over the land, happily gnawing the orphans' feet as they walked past,

The Victorian Mill once saw grey clouds towering over its head, whimpering at the noise of the deadly machines,

The Victorian Mill now sees the grass laughing and dancing in the wind,

The Victorian Mill now sees the sun beaming down at the flowing river,

The Victorian Mill once heard the machine shouting in anger as children fed them dirty cotton,

The Victorian Mill once heard the machines aching for a finger to get trapped,

The Victorian Mill now hears river washing the gleaming stones, jumping out of the bank,

The Victorian Mill now hears silence creeping from room to room.

The Victorian Mill was a death trap now forgotten.

The Victorian Mill is now a window to the past, full of joy and sorrow.

On both trips comments were made by museum staff about how well behaved our children were. They added that the children were interested in what they were learning and asked thoughtful questions. A credit to the school.

Another visit will take place later this half term when our Reception class visit the Transport Museum in Bury.
